Conor Murphy was 29 years old and shoveling horse manure for a living.

Then he decided to place a little wager on the ponies he was cleaning up after.

So Conor made what’s called an accumulator bet. That means he picked five horses he liked and watched as all five won.

But there’s more. Murphy’s horses came in despite being 160,000 to 1. That means they paid off $1.5 million on a $75 bet.

Murphy quit his job and moved to Kentucky where he had once worked, and bought a stable of his very own.

When the Kentucky Derby runs today just after 5:30 p.m. watch for a horse named Lines of Battle.

That’s Conor’s horse. He’ll go off as a 33 to 1 long shot. Odds that don’t bother Conor Murphy at all.
