Speed crackdown planned next week for Highway 169

By Steve Berg

Tulsa, Okla. —

Put your cell phone down and ease your foot of the gas if you plan on driving on Highway 169 next week.

Tulsa Police will be conducting a speeding and distracted driving crackdown from December 10th to the 14th.

And Officer Craig Murray says they'll have zero tolerance if you're pulled over.

"There's not going to be any warnings issued on this, so we're letting people know now that they've got to adhere to that, they've got to be watching for it," Murray said.

He says they're targeting Highway 169 because it's has an unusually large amount of construction zones right now, and it always has a lot of traffic, creating a dangerous combination for the construction workers.

"People have to slow down.  Y'know we've got workers out there, we've got the construction going on, and the bottlenecks happen with the traffic, and if we don't get people following the rules, we're going to have more crashes and unfortunately more injuries and more deaths," Murray said.

Fines range from $150 to $500.
