Tulsa police detectives working the case of a woman stabbed to death practically on the front porch of her own home Friday afternoon did not want to believe their suspect was the woman's own son.

Veteran homicide Tulsa Police Detective Dave Walker told KRMG Saturday morning that the evidence quickly pointed them in that direction, so they moved quickly to arrest 20-year old William Matthew Stick in the murder of his mother 43-year old Veronica Stick.

It happened sometime around 3:00 p.m. in the 3600 block of E. 24th St., just southeast of E. 21st St.  and S. Harvard Ave.

An exterminator arrived at the home to service it and discovered the victim lying at the foot of the steps outside her home.

EMSA transported her to St. John Medical Center, but her wounds were too severe and she died.

Quickly, the investigation focused on her son.

"Things just only really pointed to the son and of course we really didn't want to believe that a son could kill his mother, but that's where (the investigation) led us and that's where we ended up," Walker told KRMG.

He says the motive remains a mystery as Stick has not cooperated with the investigation.

"There's no history of domestic violence, no history of any criminal activity," he said.

Stick's vehicle was found abandoned near E. 36th St. and S. Peoria Ave in the Brookside area.

He was taken into custody about 8:00 p.m., not far from the 2900 block of S. Peoria.

Walker says they haven't yet searched the vehicle and the weapon may be in it, but so far they haven't recovered the weapon and want the public to be vigilant in the Brookside area.

"Anywhere from 36th to 21st, maybe Woodward Park, anybody finding an edged weapon lying in the grass or somewhere, you should call police."
