Claremore, Okla. —

Angry Blue Star Mothers from the Rogers County chapter say someone has been trying to scam people in the Claremore area by posing as one of them.

Rogers County chapter president Wanda Inman says a woman walked into a local business and said she was collecting donations for the family of 19-year-old Jon Townsend, a soldier from Claremore who was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday.

"They had a Rogers County Blue Star Mothers business card and said they were collecting money for the Townsend family," Inman said.

Inman said her group is not soliciting donations for the Townsend family and said if they were, they wouldn't have their individual members go door-to-door as the scam suspect is doing.

Inman says the incident makes her very angry.

"You just don't use a tragedy like this to exploit people and ask for money," she said.

She said police have a good lead on the woman who they think is doing this.

If you think you might have been scammed by this suspect, Inman says you should contact the Claremore Police Department.
