The $25 fee is supposed to help ease the number of fundraisers every year and help pay for school activities.

After hearing our story with an upset parent last week, a parent contacted KRMG with a different perspective.

Laurie Rush has one child in middle school and one in high school.

She says, “I went before the school board when my kids were in first and second grades trying to impose that.”

Rush says fundraisers are a burden for parents and put children in danger.

She tells KRMG, "I'm in favor of the fees because I don't want my kids walking around town going to strangers. I don't want to be obligated to buy products I don't need."

She says her family uses $25 worth of gasoline trying to get the products delivered.

Parents against the fee say public school should be free.

They also tell KRMG a mandatory fee sounds like a tax that didn't go to voters.

The fee takes effect for students next year.
