An unusually high number of absentee ballots and voting machine snafus prompted delays in getting results in Tulsa County on election night.

“The high speed counters were not working properly as the night went on,” said Tulsa County Election Board Assistant Secretary Shelly Boggs. "We had eleven voting devices that failed to give us a report at the end of the night."

She adds they only had to perform two election night recounts.

The Tulsa County Election Board did not begin tallying votes until about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

An estimated 20,000 people voted via absentee ballot in Tulsa County.

"Most Presidential elections we don't usually leave until midnight or one, but we didn’t get out of here until around 2 a.m. We knew it was going to be a late night.  I just didn't think it was going to be quite so late,” Boggs said.
