Jenks reroutes school bus after reports of a gun in a backpack, later found to be a toy

By Staff

A Jenks school bus is rerouted Tuesday morning after a report that a student might have a gun in his backpack.

Bonnie Rogers with Jenks Public Schools tells KRMG says campus police got involved in the search and the student had an air soft-toy gun.

"One of our other bus drivers was very alert and noticed it and so we are pleased that they were watching and paying attention to what is going on around them," says Rogers.

The toy gun is against school policy.

"Our policy and procedures say that students can not have any type of gun or replica and that would be considered a replica,” says Rogers.

She tells us that discipline action has been taken against the student but she couldn't elaborate.
