SCAM ALERT: Crooks pretending to be internet providers

After multiple reports of a new telephone scam happening in the Tulsa Area, TPD is reminding people not to give out their personal information.

Victims receive a telephone call from their “internet provider” telling them they have been overcharged for their services. In order to receive the refund, the victim must provide their banking information.

The scammer then withdraws money from the victim’s account.

TPD said people should not give bank account information over the telephone if they did not initiate the call or if they are unsure who they are talking to.

If you believe you are falling victim to this internet services scam, contact your service provider or ask them to mail you a check instead. If they truly are your service provider, they should already have your address.

If you are the victim of a scam, immediately call your financial institution and file a police report with your local police department.
