Tulsa, Okla. —

The recent heat wave in Tulsa can play havoc on your vehicle and cost you money.

Garages around the area have seen everything from tire issues to people in need of new engines.  Cecil & Son's Troy Cox said proper maintenance will save you cash.

"Make sure you have proper coolant in your radiator, your tires are properly inflated and while you're under the hood look at your other fluids," Cox said.  "Those things will go far with making your vehicle run as smoothly as possible."

A new problem with vehicles has been air conditioners.  Cox said people are buying recharge bottles and are trying to charge their systems themselves.  Instead, he said you're better off having a garage look at your air conditioner or you might have to pay more later.

As always, checking your oil is key.  Cars run hot in the summer and if your vehicle is having oil problems, your engine could die.

"It's always discouraging for the customer and us," Cox said.  "It's a preventable problem."
