Sandwiched between 'Black Friday' and 'Cyber Monday,' 'Small Business Saturday'

Small Business Saturday!
Small Business Saturday!

By Russell Mills

TULSA, Okla. —

Big box stores may own "Black Friday," but for the third year, there's a push to bring more shoppers to small businesses.

Dubbed "Small Business Saturday," the new potential holiday tradition focuses on what economists call the backbone of the economy.

With a presence on Facebook and a nationwide ad campaign, the idea is to support primarily locally-owned businesses.

The idea began in 2010 and was the brain child of executives at credit card giant American Express.

American Express cardholders can get a one-time $25 rebate by spending at least $25 at participating retailers.

Check out the AMEX website for more information, including a list of area businesses participating in the "Small Business Saturday" program.
