Sand Springs, Okla. —
Sand Springs Schools, which says it recently had to cut 76 personnel because of budget shortfalls, met with parents Monday night to talk about their legislative goals.
Superintendent Lloyd Snow says they wanted to inform parents about their plans to go to the State Capitol and push for change in the funding sytem for schools as well as possible changes to the State's method of grading school districts.
He said the district continues to operate at a a deficit.
"We're going to spend $1.8 million more than we're going to get in revenue, which means we're tapping into our savings," he said. "And we can do that for about one more year, and we'll have ANOTHER round of losses of employees."
He said the first step in making changes though is getting parents involved, and he says they had an excellent turnout at Monday's meeting with about 130 parents.
