TULSA, Okla. —

Some might like the fact that there hasn't been a lot of snow and ice to contend with this winter, but the tradeoff is that allergies are much worse than usual this time of year.

Stephen Strong, a pharmacist at Freeland Brown in Brookside, says they've been selling antihistamines and decongestants at a very brisk pace.

He said there are several questions that pharmacists will ask a client when trying to determine the right medication for his or her allergies, including the person's health history.

"Like high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid, or diabetes," Strong said.

Some medications work faster than others, but once again there's a tradeoff, because the ones that work quickly will make you drowsy and vice-versa.

"Some of the older antihistamines are very good, they're very fast-acting," Strong said.

"That's the drawback of the other, non-sedating, they don't work that fast."
