Doctors sued for over $1 million after mocking unconscious patient

Comments were recorded

By Rick Couri

There have been many stories about operating room manners going out the window.

But in this case, the comments made while a patient was unconscious during a colonoscopy seemed particularly nasty.

The patient used his cell phone to record instructions before he was put under. When he forgot to turn it off, it recorded the entire procedure.

Courthouse News Service reports some of the comments made by the doctor and operating roof staff were;

 * Dr. Tiffany Ingham: “After five minutes of talking to you in pre-op, I wanted to punch you in the face and man you up a little bit."

 * Ingham added the patient was a "big wimp" and a "retard."

 * She then commented about shooting a gun up his rectum, and poked fun at his college alma mater. She also considered putting a fake note on his chart saying he suffered from hemorrhoids.

 * Other members of the team are heard saying a rash on the man's penis could be syphilis. Ingham follows with “it's probably tuberculosis in the penis, so you'll be all right.'"

Lastly, the physicians made plans to dodge the patient after they were finished. The patient is suing for $1.35 million in damages.
