The wheels are in motion to convert several streets in downtown Tulsa from one-way to two-way.
“It’s just incremental as funding becomes available.” Henry Somdecerff with the City of Tulsa said.
Somdecerff says the work will be done in phases and at the same time as road rehabs are done.
The first section of downtown to get the makeover consists of Fifth Street between Denver Avenue and Boulder Avenue, Boulder Avenue between First Street and Tenth Street and Cheyenne Avenue from First Street to Tenth Street.
While the plan is to convert most of the downtown grid to two-way streets, not every street will be changed.
“First and Second would remain one-way as well as Seventh and Eighth - and then Detroit and Cincinnati.” Somdecerff added.
Those will remain one-way because they lead to and from ramps to the highways that make up the downtown loop.
