The race for the 2nd Congressional District in eastern Oklahoma is now between Democrat Rob Wallace and Republican Markwayne Mullin.

Both men faced a primary run-off and won on Tuesday.

KRMG talked to both candidates about the general election in November and what kind of campaign we can expect.

The primary race for both went negative with attack ads.

Both candidates tell KRMG they hope the race focuses on the issues.

One of them will replace Congressman Dan Boren (D) who decided not to seek re-election and is the only Democrat in Oklahoma’s congressional delegation.

21,000 Republicans cast ballots in the run-off race between Mullin and George Faught and nearly 44,000 Democrats voted in the race between Wallace and Wayne Herriman.

When looking at the voter registration in the 2nd district, 63% of the voters are registered as Democrats.

So we asked both candidates about party affiliation and voter turn-out.

"What I hear from voters is they are tired of the labels, they are tired of the party names, they are tired of red and blue, they are tired of politics as usual.  They are looking for someone who will take eastern Oklahoma values and eastern Oklahoma common sense to Washington," says Wallace.

Mullin tells KRMG this race is about the person not the party.

"I am not too concerned about that because this district always does what is right, I truely believe that. You can look at it, we vote, not just on a 'R' or 'D' but we vote on the person."
