Oklahoma City is ready. That’s what everyone in the capitol city says as we prepare for game one of the NBA finals tonight at the Chesapeake Center. The stage couldn’t be bigger as the upstart Thunder meet the star studded Miami Heat complete with its big three of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh.

The contrast couldn’t be much greater. The Thunder has been built with draft picks like Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook as well as smart trade moves that brought players like Kendrick Perkins, Thabo Sefolosha, and Derek Fisher. The Heat is a team created by a checkbook with their big three all brought to south beach as free agents.

KRMG went to Oklahoma City Tuesday morning to broadcast live from Beverly’s Pancake House.  We found that Thunder fans are confident of a win but there are fans here who are worried about more than just the final score. Jerry lives and works in north Oklahoma City, he wants this series to bolster the city as well as the team. “I hope it’s just gonna make us grow and put us on the map big time” he told me with a big smile. When I asked if OKC would win the series he didn’t wait to answer “oh yes, yeah, go Thunder, Thunder up!”

Angie was just biting into her toast as I approached her to ask about the game. She couldn't swallow fast enough to tell me how excited she was "oh for sure" she nearly shouted. "I can't talk about it without smiling, I have to work a twelve hour shift at the hospital so I can go home and watch the game."

Click here and you can hear my conversation with Angie.

Billy was in early for breakfast before he headed to work. He said he was almost too excited to sleep and he isn’t the only one in his house who is ready. Billy has a one year old son who might not know it, but he’s a fan too. “Oh man, he’s Thundered out” Billy exclaimed. “He’s got a little Durant onesie and everything so yes sir, we’re all Thundered out at my house.”

Mick Cornett isn’t worried. Cornett is a former sportscaster and current mayor of Oklahoma City. His town is about to be on the national stage for all the right reasons and he isn’t worried about how things will go. “We’ve hosted big events before” Cornett noted. “I think we’re going to exceed their expectations but probably because their expectations are pretty low” he finished.

Oklahoma City and the entire state stand ready surprise everyone, not just on the court but everywhere. Now all we need is a win.
