You normally go to an aquarium to see things that are wet but not to get drenched yourself. That will all change on Saturday as the south grounds of the Oklahoma Aquarium are transformed into a giant inflatable water park.

Aquarium director Teri Bowers told KRMG news that a former Tulsan David Miller is the man behind the new venture. Miller’s company extremewaterslide.com is providing all the attractions for toddler through adult.

Bowers says the star of the new area will be the world’s tallest inflatable water slide at just over five stories. Bowers knows that may lead to questions about Oklahoma’s winds causing problems but she says not to worry “If there are sustained winds of over 20 miles per hour there could be some question on the tallest slide but there are the other things to keep people occupied.” What are those things? “A lot of other slides and misting tents and a splash zone” she smiled.

Hear my entire intervew with Teri from the site of the attraction with one click.

KRMG spent some time talking to moms at the aquarium to see if they think the new wet zone is a good idea. “Sounds like fun, I think the kids would really enjoy it” one expressed. Another mother told me she wouldn’t leave the fun just to the little ones “I would be on the slip-n-slide, that would be fun” she loudly added.

Then, one more skeptical mom asked the all-important question. “It depends” she began, “how much is it going to cost?”

You can hear what local mothers think of the idea right here.

The answer varies with how much you would like to do. Bowers says those just supervising can get in free while wristbands for an all-day pass will cost $20.00. Bowers also told KRMG news that the two facilities will offer some reciprocal deals. “Show your wristband from the waterpark at the aquarium and get $2.00 off admission.” And she added it works the same in reverse “Show your aquarium tickets or membership card at the waterpark and get $2.00 off there.”

Hours for the new attraction will be 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. nightly, weather permitting.
