Tulsa, Okla. —
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation didn't have enough manpower on its own to investigate all the cases of internet sex crimes around the state.
So they got the idea to give statewide jurisdiction to certain police officers in cities and towns all around Oklahoma, who specialize in undercover internet stings.
"It gives the Internet Crimes Against Children task force more abilities, more manpower to investigate these cases," said OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown. "And there are plenty of cases to go around."
Just since a new law took effect in November to give the statewide jurisdiction to the officers, the task force has made around a dozen new arrests.
For example, a police officer in Guthrie worked on a case to help arrest a child porn suspect in the town of Pauls Valley, a hundred miles away.
"That allows those officers to go outside their jurisdictional boundaries, which helps us tremendously," Brown said.
