TULSA, Okla. —
The new Boulder Avenue bridge connecting the middle of downtown to the Brady District is nearly complete.
It will replace the original bridge that was build in 1929 over the railroad tracks.
City of Tulsa Field Engineering Manager Terry Ball tells KRMG that the original bridge was torn down in 2009 when it became too dangerous for drivers and pedestrians to cross.
The new bridge is taller and wider than the original. Ball says, "When they designed the new one, they got with the railroad company, found out what the clearances had to be and that dictated what the bottom elevation of the bridge had to be."
The bridge connects First to Archer streets. Pedestrians utilizing the bridge will also notice wider sidewalks.
Construction was funded by the 2008 Fix Our Streets sales tax.
Crews began working on the new bridge in January 2012.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2 P.M. Monday on the north end of the bridge.
