Nat'l Guard asks business to help soldiers readjust to 'normal life'

Many returning troops have PTSD, traumatic brain injuries

Oklahoma soldiers battle Taliban

Tulsa, Okla. —

Work can be stressful for anyone, but it's especially tough for some of our returning National Guard soldiers who may be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or a traumatic brain injury or both.

That's why Oklahoma National Guard leaders recently held a seminar at Camp Gruber with a group of business and civic leaders and asked them for their help in getting soldiers readjusted to normal life.

"If they see an employee that they know is a guardsman who has returned from a recent deployment and that that employee is having some problems, that maybe they reach out to that employee and say, hey is there something I can do for you?" said Major Geoff Legler.

He also said an alternative would be to call the National Guard directly and let them know they have a guardsman who might need some help in dealing with PTSD or a TBI.

Legler said the business leaders were very receptive to the Guard leaders' message and expressed a willingness to help.
