TULSA, Okla. —
Some local meteorologists forecast upwards of 8 inches of snow for Tulsa yesterday.
Instead, Tulsa recieved about an inch of the white stuff.
KRMG took action to find out why.
Meteorologist Steve Piltz with the National Weather Service office in Tulsa tells KRMG that forecasting winter weather is tough. Piltz says, "In July, lets say that we're going to get a tenth of an inch of rain and we get a quarter of an inch of rain. You wouldn't bat an eye at that but that's the difference between one inch and three inches of snow."
Even with the lower than expected snow, Piltz believes the forecast was accurate. Piltz says, "We didn't forecast the eight to ten inches that the computer models were giving us. Even though we didn't get quite as much as we thought, meteorologically its still a pretty good forecast."
