More rain could fall in Tulsa's near-future

Only had one tornado touchdown in Oklahoma since last June

By Steve Berg

Tulsa, Okla. —

It's too soon to say for sure, but meteorologists say there could be a pattern developing to break the stubborn drought that's plagued Tulsa for the past couple of years.

"We do see the pattern evolving a little bit in the next three weeks that should give us a few more opportunities for some strong to occasionally severe storms," said News on 6 meteorologist Travis Meyer.

He said one benefit to the drought has been an almost complete absence of damaging tornadoes.

"This (Tuesday) is the first Tornado Watch of the season and in fact, this is the first Tornado Watch since last fall when we had one Tornado Watch," Travis said.  "And just to put it in perspective, we only had one tornado touchdown in Oklahoma since last June, which is an absolutely amazing feat."
