EXTREME WEATHER ALERT: Heat warning issued

Dangerous heat
Heat Advisory from the National Weather Service

By April Hill

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a heat warning in effect from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday’s high is 105.

Tuesday we set a record. The last time it was 105 this early in the summer was back in 1918.

Travis says tomorrow is expected to be even hotter with a high of 106 degrees.

Then, there will be a very small decline with the high on Friday of 104 and Sunday of 100.

News On 6 Meteorologist Travis Meyer says, “Heat index values may be pushing again near 110. Just take it easy.”

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside and, when possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Be sure to drink a lot of water and wear light weight and loose fitting clothing.

The occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Heat stroke is an emergency. You should always call 911.
