More flu deaths reported, Tamiflu prescriptions up

The flu has claimed the lives of 58 Oklahomans since the end of September.

Eleven of those deaths happened in the last week.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports 12 of the 58 deaths were in Tulsa County.

Nearly 1,500 people have gone to the hospital with the flu since the season began in late 2014.

Prescriptions for Tamiflu are also up. Todd Pendergraft, owner of Broken Arrow Family Drug, tells KRMG Tamiflu is one of the best ways to help recover from the virus.

“It shortens the course of the flu infection in a person by about 30 hours, on average.” Pendergraft said.

Pendergraft says he has plenty of Tamiflu in stock at both locations.
