TULSA, Okla. —

EMSA transported six people including three young children to area hospitals after fire broke out at a midtown Tulsa apartment complex.

The call came in to 911 about 8:30 p.m. and units responded to the Bradstone Apartments, 1218 S. Quaker, near S. Peoria and E. 11th St.

Delores Taylor told KRMG on the scene that she was taking a bath when her brother began beating on the door and yelling "fire."

"When I opened the bathroom door I heard my fire detector saying 'fire fire.' And then I seen all the flames coming out of the utility closet, so we just ran out with what we had and I started beating on my neighbors' doors."

Just next door, Chico and Michelle Salcedo were the first people to get the warning from Taylor.

"My neighbor, it was her apartment that was burning and she beat on our window," Michelle told KRMG.

"And then my husband climbed up and saved a lady off the balcony and carried her down."

"The fire was coming towards her this way and she panicked. So I just told her to calm down, and I hauled her over, that's all," Chico said. "I climbed up on the top of the mailbox" to get to the second story balcony, then "I just told her to climb over the rail and I just lifted her up and carried her back down."

"It's crazy, you know that?" he added.

Ironically, he had never even met the woman who lived right across the breezeway until the moment he risked his life to save her.

The woman he rescued told KRMG about her frightening experience.

"I was trapped up there, I couldn't leave. I couldn't go that way to the stairs because of the fire. I didn't know what to do, I was scared."

EMSA confirmed transporting six patients as a result of the fire.

Kelli Bruer with EMSA gave KRMG the following report on the patients:

51YO male in fair condition to OSU Medical Center

53YO female in critical condition to Hillcrest Medical Center

57YO male in critical condition to Hillcrest Medical Center

3 critical condition pediatric patients to St. Francis Hospital – exact ages unconfirmed at this time, but are toddlers and young children. One confirmed to be female.

A witness at the scene told KRMG the children were two, six and ten years old.

Several people said the toddler was the last person rescued from the apartment building.

Fire investigators say they have not yet determined a cause.

Red Cross responded, passing out blankets to ward off the cold air and snacks.

A Red Cross volunteer told KRMG the owner of the apartment complex was putting all the residents up at the DoubleTree Hotel for the night and then would help those whose apartments could not be reoccupied find new homes.

Many of the residents at Bradstone are clients of the Mental Health Association of Tulsa.

The complex was formerly known as the Bradford Apartments.
