David Starky started his fight against methamphetamine about three years ago after watching a couple of friends fight an addiction.

The Claremore man asked a lawmaker for help.

Starky says, “We have way too many children burning to death from meth lab explosions.”

He wanted to put a new type of pseudoephedrine on pharmacy shelves.

Zephrex-D is missing the ingredient used to make meth.

“So, I started calling the company asking them to consider selling to Oklahoma.”

After months of phone calls and meetings, it worked.

Starky says, “It seems like yesterday that I was handing out a single flyer out about this new meth proof pseudoephedrine that was in the works to the panel of Oklahoma lawmakers at the capital at the Interim Study on Pseudoephedrine.”

The medicine is already sold in Missouri, the home state of Highland Pharma, the company that came up with the product.

Starky says, “It’s a great first step.”
