TULSA, Okla. —

If you have to go to the pharmacy this time of year, be prepared to wait.

The worse than usual flu season has sent plenty of flu patients to their pharmacies.

John Muilenburg is a pharmacist at Walgreens in Tulsa.

He tells KRMG that it is busy this time of year.

Muilenburn says, "This past week we've had a lot with the flu outbreak. A lot of people are getting the flu shot that haven't gotten it yet then there are a lot of people being treated for the flu."

Muilenburg says the item most flu patients are looking for is TamiFlu.

The antiviral drug is supposed to slow the spread of the flu virus between cells in the body.

One way to avoid the long lines at pharmacies is to avoid the so-called rush hour.

Muilenburg says that is typically between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Another way to avoid a longer-than-necessary wait is to call ahead and make sure your prescription is ready.

Muilenburg suggests having all of your information up to date to avoid delays at the pharmacy counter.
