Man arrested after trying to poison his girlfriend with eye drops

Woman found text messages confirming the actions

Shayne Carpenter had a fight with his girlfriend and it led him to take strange measures.

Carpenter began spiking the woman’s drinks with Visine and making her sick. She found out about the plan when she read text messages on his phone that bragged to his friends about what he had done.

Police in Grass Valley, California worked with the woman to catch the creep.

Cops asked her to call Carpenter while they were listening. She did and he admitted his actions and shortly after he was taken into custody.

Carpenter is being charged with domestic violence and poisoning.

The active ingredient in Visine eye drops is Tetrahydrozoline HCl 0.05%. Swallowing this substance can result in a number of nasty effects, including:

Lowering body temperature to dangerous levels
Making breathing difficult, or even halting it entirely

Causing nausea and vomiting
Elevating and then dropping blood pressure
Causing seizures or tremors
