There is a new idea to help veterans here at home under a lot of stress.

Frank Kiker is the veteran behind the Guardian of Freedom program.

He recently held a two day training course for chaplains at a church in Jenks.

Now that they are trained, they can respond to police calls.

Kiker says, "We are having three suicides a day in Tulsa, just in the area."

The veterans have a variety of needs when they return home.

Sometimes is a simple fix like food.

Kiker says, "I've got a bunch of vets who need to know about the benefits that we have."

Other times the needs are more complicated.

Kiker uses a story from a veteran’s mother to explain.

He tells KRMG, “She spent four months trying to help her son. He’s in jail right now and he got arrested on P.T.S.D. problems because he took a car and stole it.”

Veterans often don’t like to be labeled with P.T.S.D.

Kiker knows because he was in the same situation.

He says, “When I was diagnosed, my wife gave me a paper and said this is you. I said no it ain’t. When I read it, I started crying.

The chaplain is holding a big event at the Spirit Event Center in Bixby to raise money for the program.
