Tulsa's junior basketball stars inspired by Thunder

By Steve Berg

Tulsa, Okla. —

Again and again the kids sprinted up and down a south Tulsa basketball court as fast as their legs would carry them.

It was obvious the Oklahoma City Thunder's heartbreaking loss in Game Four of the NBA Finals the night before had not dampened their enthusiasm one bit.

Around three-dozen elementary and middle-school aged kids were taking part Wednesday night in the Tulsa Ballaholics basketball camp.

Charlie Westbrook said that the Thunder's impressive playoff-run this year has had a noticable impact on the kids' attitude toward basketball.

"You can see the enthusiasm with the kids," he said.

He said his 9th grade daughter Lee is glued to the set whenever the Thunder are playing.

Lee said the team inspires her.

"To get better at my game so one day I can be in the NBA," she said.

And of course it doesn't hurt that she shares something obvious in common with one of the Thunder stars.

"It's pretty cool to have someone on the team have the same last name as me," she said.

The Ballaholics coach, Rod Hall, says the only problem they have these days is finding gym space at a reasonable rate.

He said if anyone is willing to donate time at their gym where the club can practice, you can contact the club at their website.
