Tulsa fire crews responded to an early morning building fire near 61st and South Lewis.

The fire scene was located in a strip mall across the street from the Firestone store.

Tulsa police and firemen shut down traffic at the intersection of 61st and Lewis so that a water line could be laid across the roadway.

Witnesses to the fire spoke with KRMG Morning News Host Joe Kelley who was on the scene about 2:30 this morning.

"All we saw at first was the smoke. We were over getting gas and we looked in the reflection of the window at QuikTrip and saw the fire and came over here. It wasn't as big as it is now and it just spread completely and the whole building is just collapsed."

Another witness told us, "They're having a hard time putting (the fire) out. I feel sorry for the businesses. They're going to have major smoke damage at the apartment complex."

An additional fire company was called to the scene to help keep the flames from spreading to the apartments.

Several businesses were destroyed by the fire, including the Hair Review salon, a formalwear shop and a submarine restaurant that also is located in the mall.

Fire crews were on the scene until 5:15 a.m. today.

We're told no one was injured in the fire.

Fire investigators tell us the blaze may have started in the ceiling of a laundromat located in the mall.

It's unclear what caused the fire but the fire department's Stan May says it is not suspicious.
