KRMG Extreme Weather Alert: Heat watch may upgrade to a warning

The Excessive Heat Watch is pushed back until Wednesday.

The original plan was for the heat watch to begin Wednesday and end Monday.

Michael Lacy, with the National Weather Service, says, “The air mass will be just dry enough to keep heat indices down below 105 today for Tulsa. Because we are not meeting criteria, the watch is just pushed back a day.”

Tulsa County is the only area included in the watch.

That’s because of the hotter temperature in urban areas.

Lacy says the watch could be increased to a warning by Thursday morning.

He says, “It definitely looks like it will be upgraded to a warning for tomorrow. It does look like much more of a slam dunk as far as the heat is concerned because we’re going to warm up.”

Lacy says, by the end of the week, Tulsa may end up a few degrees cooler than areas to our north.

“High temperatures in some places may even get closer to 110, like if you head up toward Bartlesville or off to the north and west of Tulsa.”
