TULSA —

Rev. Jesse Jackson rallied support for the victims and families affected by the Good Friday shootings in north Tulsa Saturday evening during a nearly three-hour event held at a historic church.

A standing-room only crowd, estimated at well over a thousand people, packed the First Baptist Church North Tulsa, 1414 N. Greenwood for the 6:00 p.m. "Rally for Hope and Healing."

It was Jackson's second public appearance; he also spoke during the funeral of Good Friday shooting victim Bobby Clark Friday morning.

He then spent a few minutes talking with a KRMG reporter following the meeting.

Jackson discussed continuing economic and social disparities which divide people, and noted that roughly 600,000 people in Oklahoma are below the poverty line -- most of them white.

As for the shootings, Jackson told KRMG "the mayor, the police chief, and those around them must, I think, be commended highly."

He added, "Tulsa handled this much better and differently than Sanford did. That has helped restore for some people a measure of confidence. If these fellows were still on the loose you'd have a different environment here."
