Tulsa, Okla. —

With Tropical Storm Isaac churning toward the Gulf Coast, nearby refineries are already shutting down as a precaution, a fact which is almost guaranteed to affect gasoline prices at some point in the future, according to Patrick DeHaan with GasBuddy.com

"It does appear there will almost certainly be some upward impact," DeHaan said.

How much of an impact though is uncertain.

"It will depend on how much damage, if any, there is," he said.  "But we do know that prices will likely rise."

DeHaan said the output of crude oil from Gulf Coast refineries already down roughly 25 percent, as refineries close in anticipation of the storm.
