The Obama administration has decided to allow women to be placed in more front line combat positions but Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe isn’t sure it’s a good idea. The Senator says if he thinks there’s a problem “they’re going to have a fight on their hands.”

“We want to make sure they aren’t put in a position where a woman cannot do something” Inhofe said this week.

The Senator, who is the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services committee doesn’t want to compromise soldiers for any reason “we don’t want to lower the standards in order to accommodate women and I believe that’s the case” he noted.

Inhofe has some evidence to back him up. “I have told by the Marines that there has been a problem getting women through the course.” The Senator is referring to two women who failed the Marine Corps’ Infantry Officer Course in 2012. “There are two women who tried to go through the course and they were not able to do so.

One woman didn’t finish the combat endurance test while the second failed to complete two training exercises for medical reasons.  26 male Marines out of 107 also did not finish the endurance test.

Inhofe assured his interests are with the troops in the field “I want to make sure we don’t do anything to impair our readiness and our ability to combat.”

The Senator points out there are many forward positions that women could fill without problems so he’ll wait to see how things play out. “I caution people who are automatically hysterical about this to wait and let us have a chance to see what they do.” Inhofe finished “we’ll stop the bad stuff.”
