Helmerich & Payne looks to lay off 2,000 employees

Helmerich & Payne is looking at cutting 2,000 jobs as the company reduces its rig operations.

The drop in crude oil prices is also to blame, company executives said in a webcast Thursday.

The company had nearly 12,000 employees as of September 2014, around 500 of those in Tulsa.

Helmerich & Payne also announced plans to build four rigs per month this year have been changed to just two rigs.

When we asked if any Tulsa jobs would be cut, we were given the following statement:

"As relates to the 2,000 or more mentioned positions that could be eliminated, Mr. Lindsay was referring to the company’s field positions directly related with operating the rigs that may no longer be active. These types of positions are not ones associated with our Tulsa presence."
