Hail and thunderstorms could slam Tulsa area

By April Hill

Light rain fell across the Tulsa area Saturday morning with the severe weather threat increasing throughout the day.

News On 6 Meteorologist Travis Meyer says, “Storm system is moving across Oklahoma that will give us a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. A few could be strong to isolated severe.”

Trav says the biggest threat will start in the late afternoon south of Tulsa.

“Thunderstorm chances are increasing for the afternoon. It looks like a pretty good chance of a few strong thunderstorms this afternoon especially south of Tulsa.”

The chance for rain is 90 percent with hail and high winds.

“Hail and wind up to 60 miles per hour are possible.”

If you’re driving south late this afternoon into early evening, be careful.

“The main threat will be some hail and gusty winds, but there is a tornado threat down toward the McAlester area.”

Saturday high is in the mid-60s.

Sunday there is a 30 percent chance for rain with the temperature falling to the lower 40s by 5:00 p.m.

The temperature is expected to climb back up to the 70s by Thursday.
