TULSA, Okla. —
A group calling themselves 'Citizens for a Better Vision' has launched a campaign to defeat the Vision 2 tax extension.
Ronda Vuillemont-Smith, along with former Tulsa City Councilors Maria Barnes and Roscoe Turner, read a statement opposing Vision2 and answered media questions during a press conference on the steps of City Hall Monday afternoon.
Vuillemont-Smith told KRMG that her main issue with Vision2 is that it gives the Tulsa Metro Chamber and the City of Tulsa the ability to pick winners and losers in business instead of encouraging business growth for all.
Another point of contention that was brought up is the idea that the Vision2 plan was rushed and had virtually no citizen input before being approved by Tulsa County Commissioners.
In August, Tulsa County Commissioners passed a resolution asking Tulsa County voters to extend the Vision 2025 sales tax until 2029.
The $748.8 million plan, if approved by voters, aims to pump more money into infrastructure and spur economic growth. Each proposition, if passed by Tulsa County voters in November, would be for roughly a 3/10ths of one cent sales tax. If both propositions pass, they would equal the 6/10ths of one cent sales tax currently in place because of Vision 2025.
'Citizens for a Better Vision' has created a website and a Facebook page. The organization is also distributing yard signs, bumper stickers and buttons.
