Gov. Fallin signs religious liberty bill

Governor Mary Fallin signed a bill Friday that protects religious leaders who don’t want to perform gay marriages.

“This bill makes it clear that the government can never compel our religious leaders or houses of worship to act in violation of their faith where marriage is concerned,” said Fallin.

Troy Stevenson is with Freedom Oklahoma, which advocates for gay and transgender rights. He has said he believes the bill is unnecessary, but that he supports the spirit of the law.

“I am proud to join our Legislature in taking a strong stand in defense of religious liberty and the freedoms awarded to all American citizens by the U.S. Constitution,” said Gov. Fallin.
