GOP field widens but Tulsans recognition is slim

The field of candidates seeking the GOP presidential nomination continues to grow.  Jon Huntsman, former Governor of Utah, announced on Tuesday that he would seek the nomination.  But, as the list grows, we wondered if the public's awareness and knowledge of the candidates grew too.

We took a handful of pictures of the candidates to the streets of Tulsa at lunchtime and asked people to look at the pictures.  The question was simple, “Who are these people?”

“This is probably one of the Republicans that is going to run for president but I have no idea who it is and the same thing with this guy.  This is Sarah Palin, we all know that and this is someone else who will run for president,” says the first woman asked to take the picture test.

The pictures in her hand were of Sarah Palin, Herman Cain, Jon Huntsman, and Mitt Romney.

“I know Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney,” says another man.  He could not name the fourth picture, Jon Huntsman, on the same day the former Governor of Utah, announced he would seek the nomination.

Not scientific, but we asked a total of 11 people.  Everyone could identify Sarah Palin and no one could identify Jon Huntsman.  Palin has not announced whether she is going to seek the Republican nomination.
