TULSA, Okla. —

GOP presidential hopeful and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich made a campaign stop in Tulsa Monday where he received a warm reception from a sizeable crowd.

Gingrich hopes to make an impact in Oklahoma, which he calls a "key state" for any Republican hopeful.

He spoke for a little more than half an hour, addressing topics including energy policy, gas prices, illegal immigration and national security.

His remarks were met with loud applause at several points, indicating that he had made some points with the crowd.

By 1:00 p.m., several hundred people had already begun pouring into the ORU Mabee Center to hear the second presidential candidate to visit Tulsa in less than two weeks.

Pennsylvania Republican Rick Santorum visited the same venue Feb. 9th and spoke before a crowd of more than 4,000 people.

At the time, Santorum said it was the largest audience he'd had during his 2012 presidential campaign.

Judging by the number of seats filled, the Gingrich town hall meeting was as well attended as Santorum's, with perhaps even more people coming to hear the Georgian speak and take questions from ORU students.

Earlier, Gingrich spoke exclusively with KRMG's Dan Potter, read that story and hear the entire interview here.

Oklahomans will go to the polls March 6th, one of several "Super Tuesday" states.

The other states holding votes on Super Tuesday are Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.
