Let it get hot, we’ve got water. The area splash pads have been open for a couple of weeks and this first day of summer finds them busy. We went to Bentley Park in Bixby to visit with area moms and kids who told us these pads are more than just fun, they’re needed. “It’s hot, it’s summertime. It’s fun to do the splash pad, it’s nice.”

And one young woman told KRMG it’s also a way to let those kids burn off some energy. “Yes, very much yes,” she laughed.

The same lady told us with more than one kiddo she needs the break. “I have three so it’s always nice when then can just fly away a little bit,” she chuckled.

Bentley Park is more than just a splash pad. There are softball and soccer fields as well as a huge dry play area. That means kids have lots of options when it comes to finding ways to wear themselves out.  The other thing moms like is the way the park is built “It’s safe, there’s a fence around here,” one told me as she pointed to the perimeter.

I found a table of several ladies sitting in the shade while their children laughed, climbed, ran and got wet. For them it was a road trip. “We’re from Bristow and we try to get together once a week and it’s our first time here,” one told me. “We’re glad we found this,” she finished.

As I was leaving there was a woman standing close to the edge of the splash area. I asked her if she was thinking of  joining the little ones. “Yes, not today but when its 100 I will, when it’s hotter.”

If the current forecast is right, she’ll need to bring her bathing suit with her on their next visit.
