The fire started just before 3:45 a.m. Wednesday when smoke alarms began going off on the 13th floor of the University Club Apartments.

This resident told KRMG News what happened next.

"I could smell smoke coming in through my apartment and since then I've been sitting out here watching fireman after fireman go in."  He told us when it all happened, he didn't have time to think at all. "Pretty scary, I didn't grab anything at all I just put my clothes on and got out."

Those firefighters made quick work of the situation "didn't take them long to get the fire knocked down at all, probably two, three to five minutes at the most" Tulsa Fire Captain Jerry Benefield told KRMG News. The evacuations came as a precaution but Benefield told KRMG the damage was confined to one unit "it started in the living area of the living room and was pretty much kept there." That resident will be displaced for at least a while but the rest of the residents are expected to be able to return later on Wednesday.

Fire crews didn't expect a great deal of damage to come from the fire. "Not really" Benefield began. "There was a lot of smoke in the 13th floor but we got it vented pretty quickly buit they're going to smell smoke for a little while."

One of the people who had to leave their apartment told KRMG they were very happy with the way the building management and others handled the situation.

We're told there were no injuries, plus only the unit where the fire started will have more than just minimal damage.
