Few answers yet in Oklahoma prison riot

The investigation continues into an outbreak of violence at the Cimmaron Correctional Center in Cushing, Oklahoma that involved hundreds of inmates.

The facility, operated by Corrections Corporation of America, remained on lockdown Thursday as state and CCA officials worked to determine the cause of the fighting which erupted there Wednesday afternoon.

CCA spokesman Steve Owen tells KRMG 11 inmates were transported to the hospital after fighting broke out in three of the housing units.

Four of them were returned to the prison by late Friday morning, the other seven remained hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Owen could not tell KRMG if any weapons were used, how many inmates were involved, or whether any criminal charges would result from the fighting.

He said those aspects of the incident are all under investigation.

He added that CCA and all private prisons operate under the same guidelines as state-run facilities.
