Faught, Mullin to square off in GOP runoff debate

By Russell Mills

TULSA —

Businessman Markwayne Mullin and State Rep. George Faught will square off in a debate at Rogers State University in Claremore Monday evening.

The debate is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

It will be carried on the university's television channel.

Mullin's campaign claims to enjoy a large lead over Faught.

Mullin tells KRMG internal polls show him leading Faught by more than 30 points.

Faught tells KRMG his side hasn't done any polling, but he's not convinced by Mullin's claim.

"What we're hearing on the ground is certainly different," he told KRMG. "Someone can say all the numbers they want, August 28th is the only number that counts."

That is the date set for the runoff election in which both Democrats and Republicans must choose between 2 candidates to send forward to the November general election.

Neither Faught nor Mullin claimed to be looking past the runoff.

"We've got to win this one first before we can be too concerned about that one," Mullin told KRMG.

Both men said they expect the economy and Obamacare to be the central themes of Monday night's debate.
