New Reasor's in Bixby prepares to open

TULSA, Okla. —

The Tulsa area's newest, most modern grocery store will open its doors Wednesday in Bixby.

Reasor's stores owner Jeff Reasor gave KRMG an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the new store a week before it opens near the intersection of S. Memorial and E. 111st St.

He noted the unique design elements of the store, which he says are geared to appeal to his largely female clientele.

"The ladies are going to pick up on the textures and the colors and the angles. Eighty percent of my customers are women, so we're trying to really tailor the store for them."

Among other amenities, the store features a place to sit and enjoy the fresh-cooked deli offerings, sushi, baked goods and other items available in the restaurant area of the store.

The market also features two "education centers," basically cooking stations which will be manned by trained chefs seven days a week.

The chefs will teach quick, easy techniques to customers as a way to encourage them to broaden their horizons and do more home cooking and to help increase his sales.

"The general population eats ten pounds of shrimp a year, but the grocery store, like me, I only sell two pounds of shrimp. So people are eating the shrimp, they're just not buying it from me and the biggest part of that reason is they don't know how to cook it."

He tells KRMG "we've got about four or five sous chefs that'll be working here in the store, dedicated just to this store. That's who'll be doing the cooking, they'll be doing the demonstrations."

Asked why he decided to build so close to some major competitors, Reasor said he'd planned a store in the area for quite some time.

"We've actually been working on this spot for almost eight years," he said.

As for the proximity of rival stores, he expressed no concern.

"Just because someone else is on some of these opposite corners, believe it or not the market gets somewhat segmented and there's a group of people that want to shop at those places and there's a group of people that want to shop with us."

Reasor does offer a unique feature at his new location no one else can match, at least not presently.

It's a recharging station for electric cars.

It's another way he tries to plan for the future while building his business in the present.
