Exclusive: Family believes one of their own torched Creek County home

Looking at the smoking ruins of the family home, a woman told KRMG early Thursday "I think my grandson did that."

The fire was near the intersection of W. 161st Street and S. 197th West Avenue in rural Creek County, southwest of Sapulpa.

Firefighters got the call a little after 6:30 a.m. and found the house completely engulfed in flame.

They fought the fire defensively, attacking it from the exterior because the structure was too dangerous to enter.

The woman said her grandson suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and also has a history of drug abuse.

He is known to be violent on occasion as well.

She said that on New Year's Day, he stole her car and rammed it into the side of the house because he was angry with his parents and sister.

The car is still sitting next to the home; it and two other vehicles were damaged by the fire.

Just last Friday, she added, he threatened his mother.

"He said he was going to steal this car," the car she sat in as she spoke with us, "and come back out here."

The damage he did the first time is why no one was staying in the home at the time of the fire, she told KRMG.

But they visited the home daily to care for two dogs who were still living in the yard outside the home.

The dogs were not injured during the fire.

Investigators say they're looking into the cause of the fire.
