Drunk driving accident kills 11-year-old boy near Durant

Durant, Okla. —

Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigators say high speed and driving under the influence were the cause of a crash near Durant that killed an 11-year-old boy.

The victim has been identified as 11-year-old Joseph Miller.

He was pronounced dead at the scene with massive head injuries.

Four other passenger and the driver, 28-year-old Clyde Powell, were wall ejected from the SUV.

Two of those passenger are in critical condition.

Troopers say Powell was going westbound on Rock Creek Road when he left the road, hit a fence and a tree, and then rolled once.

According to their report, they detected the odor of alcohol on Powell.

Their report says the cause of the collision was speed and DUI.
