A Jeep driver who was talking on his cell phone left the roadway and hit a mailbox late Thursday.
The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of East 104th Street and South 66th East Avenue.
Gary Kruse at the News On 6 tells us the 20-year old driver was talking on his cellphone with his girlfriend as he was southbound on 66th East Avenue.
He left the roadway and struck a well-constructed concrete and brick mailbox.
As a result of the accident, the Jeep landed on its side.
The mailbox was scattered in pieces across the yard.
Tulsa police, fire department and EMSA ambulance crews responded to the scene.
The driver passed a field sobriety test and was given a ticket for inattentive driving.
There were no other vehicles involved.
The driver was the only occupant of the Jeep.
Later at 1:55 a.m. Friday, an 18-year old driver was unhurt when he drove his car into a creek bed.
The accident happened on a short stretch of Skelly Drive, just east of Sheridan Road.
The roadway is covered with asphalt at first, then switches to gravel and dirt.
Apparently, the driver thought that it was still a roadway as he continued on before his vehicle fell over onto its side and into the creek bed.
Tulsa police, fire and EMSA responded to the scene.
The driver was able to walk to the ambulance to be checked out, but he was not transported to a hospital.
It took wrecker drivers about 40 minutes to extricate the car from the creek bed.
