Don't rake your leaves into the street

It's illegal in Tulsa

By Steve Berg

Tulsa, Okla. —

We're sure it's tempting to rake that mountain of autumn leaves in your yard into the street, instead of taking the time to bag them up.

But the City of Tulsa reminds you it's illegal.

And it's for a good reason.

"When you get leaves blown into the street, they clog the storm sewers," said the City of Tulsa's Bob Bledsoe.  "And y'know, crews have to go out and clear the drains, otherwise there's local flooding."

He says people need to bag them up, or he says people can take them to the City's Green Waste Site where, if they're a Tulsa resident, they can drop them off for free.

He said violating the ordinance against putting leaves in the street is a misdemeanor and carries up to a $1,000 fine.
